If you wish to build a good macvlan network from scratch,you must first understand subnet geometry.
Far away beyond the clean CIDR boundaries and perfectly aligned blocks, there lived fragmented allocations. Between Unifi, Docker stacks, and aging macvlans stretched abandoned IP gaps where no properly aligned subnet could fit.
Even the all-powerful allocator sheet had no control over the chaos. Containers clung to orphaned network IDs, Synology refused to release phantom macvlans, and every attempt to expand a subnet threatened to collapse reverse proxies, databases, and monitoring stacks alike.
One night however, a small /28 by the name of macvlan_net decided it no longer wished to remain fragmented. It dreamed of becoming a /27. But to achieve this, it had to cross the dangerous lands of Docker metadata corruption, stale network references, and the dreaded network not found errors.
Along the way, containers were recreated, IPs carefully preserved, and subnet boundaries mathematically aligned. And eventually, after much suffering and questionable decisions made at 2AM, the network finally reached the far World of Proper Geometry — where free address space flowed cleanly from .192 to .223, and future expansions no longer required sacrificing entire weekends.
